Escape to NY

“It’s all about the internal dialog” – Julien Terrell

What was I thinking about on the train this morning? Oh yea, strangling life. Not like a serial killer or anything, that would be counter productive ( and suicidal, right?). Nah i mean like grabbing it by the throat and making it do what you want it to do. Proactive vs. Reactive, Sleeping vs. Meditating, Punching vs. Getting Punched.

Hi, my name is Rhys and I just moved to New York City.

For me, the last 3 weeks have been like if a whirlwind slept with a Tornado, while being secretly videotaped by a Hurricane…who then released it on youtube and it went viral. Well maybe not the viral part yet, but it was definitely like a windstorm porno. A Pornocane if you will (Hurriporn? idk). Anyway I landed, slept on a couch for 2 weeks, found a room (saved by a sublet) had meetings with prospective managers, took a breather with friends and family, and had studio sessions with Phee  all the while being repeatedly punched in the face by the recession.

So today is the first day i woke up and felt like I had my bearings straight again. This happens to everybody right? You have a crazy couple weeks and one morning you wake up like “Whoa, that was crazy”. You assess what just happened and then you get back on track. Getting back on track for me is finding an apartment (check), finding a job (unchecked) and finding a new band (unchecked). It’s kind of like pop quizzes back in high school. You get 1/3 you fail, 2/3 you passed but its like a D- and who wants a D-? Oooooooooor you read those 10 pages you were supposed to read for homework and you finish the quiz early with a 3/3 while everybody else is bitching about how they hate pop quizzes.

Anyway, i know theres about 300+ looking at this right now but you guys havent been tagged at random. Each of us (me, Phee, Ari and Jason) picked friends and fam that we wanted to keep up with as we all pursue our goals.  Check out the press kit video from our old band and a Webisode from our first tour.

Rhyson Hall and Gr& Phee are collectively Grand Hall Music.  They are independent rappers from Buffalo, NY.  The duo released a full length album in 2006 called ‘Detained @ the Border’ followed by two nationwide tours.  In 2006, Rhyson Hall’s ‘Still Raw’ single hit #1 in college radio charts across the country, including Rapattacklives.com.  In 2008, they formed Rhyson & The Heist, a rock band that made waves in the Buffalo local music scene.  Currently Rhyson has moved to New York City to further his career in the music industry while Gr& Phee has released an album, ‘The Gr& Scientist,’ with up-and-coming producer from Toronto, Can named the Mad Scientist.  2009 holds big things for both these artists and our blog is privileged enough to have them document their road to success.
