Self Expression

“Rhyson thinks artists are crazy people with outlets.”

I posted this as my Facebook status last night and got a couple interesting responses. One being “Everyone is an artist.”

Which I agree with.  Everyone has the ability to express themselves in one way or another.  The term “art” isn’t confined to music or fine arts (i.e. the art of conversation, the art of the deal).  Also, “crazy” is relative.  I saw “Revolutionary Road” the other day (no spoiler-O) and the so called crazy person in the movie was the most sane.

So let me explain where I was coming from.

Of all my friends, the most level headed and even-keeled is also the least artistic, and the person with the most mood swings has the most artistic ability. One may be considered sane and the other crazy, but both are highly intelligent and know what they need to express themselves.

All the “artists” that I’m cool with are closer to my second friend than the first (myself included).  I think what keeps us somewhat sane and able to function is that we know how to get all that emotion out.  I tell people I have 3 major outlets, one of them being art. If I go a long time w/o making music, a video, writing or drawing SOMETHING, I feel like a walking shaken can of pop (soda).

The outlets release all that emotion, and then I’m chillin.  Now what happens if I’m not able to let all that out for a long time?

I go crazy.

Therefore: Artists are crazy people with outlets.

You’re dead on my brother… It’s ultimately about perception – I see things like you do on this topic… Good stuff…

I mean damn… A brother makes a powerful statement about “everyone being an artist” and he can’t even get a link back to his blog?
