I heard about Drake 3 years ago.  I didnt know anything about Degrassi (apparently he was a kid in a wheel chair?).  All I knew was that he rapped with Jay-Z’s style and I wasn’t feeling it.  So when my boy hit me up in December telling me how crazy his mixtape So Far Gone was, it went through one ear and out the other.  I finally gave him a chance in January, when i heard the Say You Will freestyle over Kanye’s beat (which was dope) but STILL didnt listen to the whole joint.

*Takes late pass, sits in the corner and adjusts dunce cap*

Been listening to the mixtape for the last couple weeks and its a banger.  Actually its banger after banger.  Here’s the full songs that impressed me:

YES, he sounds like Wayne.  I know (Othello and Grand Phee).  I don’t think he’s as skilled; his pattern rarely leaves its structure where Wayne pretty much does whatever he wants.  And its the emcee in me that kept me from listening to the mixtape for so long.

“Nah son, he sound like Wayne.  That nigga bitin’.  Don’t even LISTEN to his shit son, EFF that!”

Yea well, be that as it may, the shit is hot.  It’s definitely a radio ready sound, but it doesn’t sound completely manufactured.  I think that’s why the Say Whats Real freestyle got me; because he sounded sincere.  Like “I’m making this crazy transition, a lot is going on around me and this is how I’m handling it.”

So if you don’t like it, you’re either old (Phee) or can’t dance (Othello and hurryupnbuy).
